Saigon Vietnamese Restaurant Pearce 14 November 2018

Jim, John and Ron attended. Another boys night.

Rice paper rolls, sizzling pork, caramelised lamb with black peppercorns, stir fried rice noodles with seafood, meat and vegetables. We enjoyed all the dishes. The lamb was the standout favourite.

Desserts were caramel flan and banana cake. Also very nice.

Flavours of India at Woden - 31 October 2018

(Review by  Ron)

Andrew, Jim, John and I attended. An all guys evening. It took us forever to make up our minds what to order. We reckon we did a good job, in spite of having no female assistance. 😑  We spent the entire evening talking about computers. Yes, we're a bunch of nerds.

The samosas were lovely and hot and crisp and the vegetable filling was really good. The accompanying sauce was a perfect compliment and added plenty of heat to the experience.

The goat, lamb and eggplant were all very good. Lovely flavours, quite distinct from each other. We felt it was a very carefully selected combination of dishes, that went together very well.

The dessert proved to be an interesting combination. It worked, but even I found the white chocolate mousse a bit too sweet on top of the already sweet gulab jamun.

China Plate at Kingston 22-8-18

Diners:
Megan, Jim, Ron, John and Kim
We sometimes go to China Plate when parliament is sitting to go pollie watching and this time we were not disappointed, one long table with at least 5 labour politicians plus hangers on.  Given the week we were having (or they were having) there were in fine spirits.

Entrée:
Beijing duck pancakes – delicious succulent duck.
Mains:
Eggplant with spicy salt (eggplant chips (not crispy)) – delicious.
Fish fillet Vietnamese style – least favourite dish of some but still delicious.  The batter was not too thick, the fish was tender and it was piping hot!
AJ's Chicken, marinated deboned chicken with soya sauce, ginger, chilli and shallots – this dish was described in the menu as "deep fried" – while the chicken was not "deep fried" the dish was still very good.  The chicken was tender and there were some nice traditional flavours with the soya sauce, ginger and shallots.  The chillies added some extra punch!  It was a nice clean tasting dish, a lot like Hainanese chicken.
Honey Pepper Lamb hot pot – very tender and had a lovely sauce.
Steamed rice
Desserts: Fried ice-cream for 3, some topped with caramel sauce and others with chocolate sauce – lovely!

Hungry Buddha restaurant in Farrer 19 September 2018

Diners

Megan, Jim, Ron, John and Kim

We had the $34.90 banquet because we could not decide on the entrees!

Entrees

Chicken dumplings with spicy tomato sauce – delicious

Corn kernels with Nepalese spices –nice but we are pretty sure that the Nepalese spices tasted a lot like mustard

Chilli chicken fillets – yum. Tasted a bit like a sweet and sour, Szechuan dish.

Nepali style peanut salad, peanuts, tomato, cucumber and mustard – nice but perhaps a little too much mustard.

Mains

Daal yellow lentil daal (mild)- good

Daal mixed veges (mild) – good

Himalayan Kukhura, boneless pieces of chicken (mild) – good

Khasis ko masu, goat, on the bone, curry (mild)– good

Dishes served with raita, tomato relish, naan bread and rice. The naan bread was fantastic, light and not oily.

Comment - All of the mains were a bit like casseroles, all good but next time we may try adding more heat (spiciness to the dishes).

Dessert

Traditional rice pudding – good

Chai tea– delicious
