China Tea House, Erindale 24 July

 

Present: John, Jim, Megan, Karen, Kim.  Ron was away slumming it in first class to London.

A voting system was implemented to choose the dishes and decided that it actually worked.

We had the duck pancakes for entree, very predictable (no votes needed for that). The sauce was served separately and the duck was cut up in small pieces, very nice.

For mains we had stir fried spicy pork belly: eggplant and seafood in chilli bean sauce: shantung crispy skin chicken and peking chilli shredded beef.

The favs were Karen liked the beef and the seafood, John liked the seafood.  The chicken was a nice combination and was one of the best for a long time, but not everyone is a fan of shantung chicken so this was not unanimous.

We retired afterwoods to Goodberry's a Canberra/Erindale institution as if we have enough room left, but we did.

It was John's birthday, so his choice.

All of us where there, the dinner was perfect as always with Portia's, no complaints.

After ordering, we were advised that there was no bacon left, so we could not have the fried prawns and bacon for entree that we had ordered. We chose to go with the fried fish balls, which looked good on the rolling pictures of dishes on a screen in the restaurant. The fish balls were disgusting balls of fish flavoured rubber. The spring rolls were also nothing special.

That out of the way, all of the main courses were excellent. The serving sizes were huge, so two of us scored some take away from the leftovers.

The banana pancake and the deep fried ice cream for dessert were an excellent conclusion to a very enjoyable dinner.
