A great selection of quite different dishes. There was no obvious favourite, as all dishes disappeared quickly.

Most of the dessert menu was unavailable, but we all found something to order. All were enjoyable. The deep fried ice cream was far and away the biggest we have ever seen.

A year since our last visit here, when some of us were a bit hesitant about what strange food we might be served.

We're all more confident this time. The menu is relatively limited and had not changed since last time. We wanted to order some dishes that we had previously, particularly the beef brisket, but not available. We ordered other dishes instead. We still had a really good meal and a great time. We were the last ones left in the restaurant and they were probably wanting to go home. We finally got their attention and paid the bill and made a reluctant exit.

Ginseng at Hellenic Woden 15 April 2026

An enjoyable selection of dishes. No real standout from the crowd.

The desserts were impressively presented and were a most satisfying conclusion to the meal.

The main problem with Ginseng at the Hellenic is that they want you out by 9pm.  It's not really a late night venue.

Cafe Viin at Pearce 18 March 2026

Finally, the monthly menu has no snails included on it.

We love going to Cafe Viin. They advertise their "intimate dining" experience. We happened to be the only people at the Cafe tonight. All food preparation and serving is done by the owner. He fully explains every course as he serves it.

All the courses were absolutely top class. Serving size doesn't look big, but we were pleasantly full at the end. A top level dining experience - well worth the $100 per head.

Ming's Restaurant at Phillip - 4 March 2026

We haven't been to Ming's for some time. It had become very ordinary and not worth going there. We had been informed that it has become much better, so here we are giving it another go.

We happened to end up opting for straight forward, mostly traditional dishes. All were good, with no dish being a particular standout. All the servings were large, so we had quite a bit of food left over. Maybe we should have been a bit more adventurous and ordered from the specials. All the remaining food was packed up by a couple of us and taken home for later.

Dessert was a non-starter, since we were all quite full.
